HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation: The Yonkers Owner’s Guide

HeatShield chimney cap installation in Yonkers typically runs $340 to $690 installed, depending on flue size, roof access, and whether you need the standard single-flue cap or a multi-flue version. We stock HeatShield-compatible caps on our trucks for same-visit installation in most cases. Most Yonkers homeowners discover the cap has failed after a heavy rain, when water stains appear on the ceiling near the chimney, or when birds start making noise inside the flue in April.

If you’re holding a failed HeatShield cap in your hand, or you’ve been told by another company that the cap needs replacement and you want to see the evidence before paying for it, this page is written for exactly that situation.

Which HeatShield Models This Applies To

HeatShield caps are manufactured to fit standard round flue tiles and rectangular clay liners, but the compatibility point that trips people up is the mounting method. HeatShield makes slip-in caps (friction fit inside the flue tile), outside-mount caps (clamped to the flue exterior), and top-mount caps (secured to the crown). You need to match the mounting style, not just the flue dimensions.

The OEM cap for a HeatShield system is stainless steel, typically 304-grade. In Westchester County’s freeze-thaw cycles, 304 steel develops surface rust over a decade, but it won’t fail structurally. An aftermarket galvanized cap will. If someone installed a galvanized cap on your HeatShield flue, that’s likely why it failed. We carry HeatShield-branded caps and a 316-grade stainless equivalent from Gelco when it’s the better fit, but we’ll write the exact part number on your quote before you approve anything. Level Two Chimney Yonkers is an independent installer; we are not affiliated with HeatShield.

Signs Your HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing

Signs Your HeatShield Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
  • Water in the firebox or damp walls near the chimney. The cap’s spark arrestor mesh or the seal against the flue tile has corroded or shifted, and rain is now running straight down the flue instead of being deflected. In Yonkers row houses and older colonials, this shows up first as a stain on the ceiling of the top floor, not in the firebox.
  • Birds or squirrels in the flue, or nesting debris at the smoke shelf. The mesh has opened up, often at the weld points, which fail before the hood itself. Once a squirrel gets in, the noise is the least of it; the nest is a chimney fire hazard the first time you light a fire.
  • Rust-colored splatter or stains on the crown around the cap base. The cap itself is shedding rust, which means it wasn’t 304 or 316 stainless. A quality cap won’t bleed rust onto the crown.
  • The cap tilted or sitting uneven on the flue. Wind, a falling branch, or a failed mounting band has loosened it. The flue is now partially exposed, and the cap can slide off entirely in a bad storm.
  • Draft problems that started suddenly, like smoke backing up. A cap that’s collapsed into the flue opening or packed with debris acts like a damper you can’t open. If your draft was fine last season and now you’re getting smoke, it’s the cap before it’s anything else.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A single-flue HeatShield chimney cap replacement in Yonkers is $340 to $520 installed from us. Multi-flue caps run $540 to $690, plus the rare upcharge for a crown that needs sealing repairs at the base of the cap. Those prices include the cap, the mounting hardware, the labor, and removal of the old cap, which we photograph before and after because that’s how you’ll know the job was actually done.

The range exists because flue size and roof pitch affect how long the job takes and what part number you need. We don’t pad it. Our written quote gives you the specific cap model, the line-item labor, and the warranty on the work itself. If a competitor’s written quote is lower, bring it to us and we’ll beat it or tell you why it’s not a like-for-like comparison.

What an owner in Yonkers can do safely: open the damper and look up with a flashlight for visible debris, water stains, or light coming through where it shouldn’t. That’s the extent of it. The moment the job moves to roof level, you’re on a ladder against a brick chimney, which is where falls in this county actually happen. Our caps are inspected and mounted from the roof with proper fall protection.

We’re not going to show up and tell you anything is broken without putting a camera in your hand and pointing at it. Call (551) 212-3526 and we’ll set up a time to inspect the existing cap, show you what we find, and hand you a written price before anything comes off the roof.
