Before & After Gallery - Level Two Chimney Yonkers

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Chimney Cleaning Before & After in Yonkers, NY

We could tell you we’ve cleaned 38,000 chimneys since 2009, but that’s just a number. What matters is what the flue actually looks like when we’re done. Every job in Yonkers leaves with a camera-scan record under Haven Standard Clause 4, so the proof isn’t a promise. It’s a photo file you keep. Here’s what we walk into and what we leave behind.

Class III Creosote Removal in a Park Hill Fireplace

Before and after chimney cleaning in Park Hill Yonkers showing creosote removal
Park Hill, Yonkers: glazed Class III creosote removed from a wood-burning fireplace flue

The before photo showed a flue liner coated in shiny, tar-like deposits from a decade of green wood fires. That’s Class III creosote, the glazed kind that resists a standard brush and feeds a chimney fire if ignored. Our technician ran a mechanical rotary whip with steel cable head, breaking the glaze off the clay liner without scoring it. The after photo shows raw clay again. Homeowner got a written sweep report, the camera stills, and a note that the liner was still sound, so no liner work was recommended that visit.

Smoke Chamber Cleaning After a Smoke-Back Complaint in Bryn Mawr

Smoke chamber cleaning before and after in Bryn Mawr Yonkers
Bryn Mawr, Yonkers: corbelled smoke chamber cleared of packed soot and a partial squirrel nest

This one started as a call about smoke rolling into the living room every time the fire got going. The camera found the smoke chamber, that corbelled section above the firebox, packed with soot and a partially decomposed squirrel nest. We removed the nest, vacuumed the chamber with a HEPA-filtered vac, and brushed the full flue. Smoke draft returned to normal. Before and after photos showed the chamber walls for the first time in years.

Oil Flue Soot Removal off Nepperhan Avenue

Oil flue cleaning before and after in Yonkers
Nepperhan Avenue area, Yonkers: oil furnace flue cleared of sulfur-heavy soot buildup

Oil flues don’t get creosote, they get a fine, acidic soot that cakes onto the liner and smells when the furnace first kicks on in October. This Yonkers home’s flue had a quarter inch of it. We swept the connector pipe and the full flue, then checked the barometric damper and clean-out. The after photo showed bare stainless liner. The fresh soot smell in the basement was gone by that afternoon.

Open-Face Fireplace Smoke Shelf and Damper Clearing in Crestwood

Smoke shelf and damper cleaning before and after in Crestwood Yonkers
Crestwood, Yonkers: smoke shelf cleared of creosote chips and the damper freed of rust scale

If the damper won’t close all the way, the fireplace pulls cold air down all winter. This Crestwood damper was stuck on rust scale and creosote chips that had fallen off the smoke shelf. We cleaned both, lubricated the hinge, and ran the brush up the flue twice. The before shot was a rusted slot; the after is a fully seated damper with a clean shelf behind it. The homeowner got a $340 total with a written scope before anything started.

Full Flue Sweep With Cap Replacement in Northwest Yonkers

Chimney cap replacement and flue sweep before and after in Yonkers
Northwest Yonkers: rusted-open cap replaced after a full flue sweep cleared the masonry

This job combined a sweep with a cap swap. The old cap had rusted through, and rain had been washing creosote down the flue into the firebox. We swept the flue first, then set a new stainless cap from Olympia Chimney, sized to the flue tile. Before: rusted mesh and a black-streaked firebox. After: clean flue and a fitted cap with animal screen. Written price for both parts of the job was on the table before the ladder went up.

Fireplace Insert Flue Reline Prep Cleaning in Ludlow

Chimney cleaning before a flue reline in Ludlow Yonkers
Ludlow, Yonkers: pre-reline cleaning removed creosote and loose clay from a spalled flue

Sometimes the before photo is what makes the reline necessary. This Ludlow flue had spalled, meaning chunks of the clay liner had flaked off inside, which would tear the insulation wrap off a new steel liner. We cleaned the flue down to stable material first, removed the loose clay, and then the reline crew came in with a DuraFlex liner. The before and after pair here shows why prep cleaning isn’t optional before a liner goes in.
