A Level company - serving Yonkers, NY

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown in Yonkers: What to Know First

HeatShield chimney cap and crown work in Yonkers typically runs $425-$1,850 depending on whether we’re repairing the existing crown, coating it with HeatShield’s own sealant system, or replacing a cap that’s failed outright. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider - not a factory-authorized shop - which means we specify parts based on what the flue actually needs, not what a distributor pushes. Most jobs are done in a single visit, with a written price on paper before anything gets touched.

If you own a home in Yonkers with a HeatShield liner or crown coating and you’re seeing water in the firebox, efflorescence on the brick, or a cap that’s rusted through, this page is for you. Call (551) 212-3526 and we’ll schedule a camera-scan inspection first.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • HeatShield Cerfractory Flue Sealant crown coatings crack at the drip edge. The product holds up well inside the flue, but on crowns that see Westchester freeze-thaw cycles, we regularly see the coating separate where the crown meets the brick shoulder. Water gets under the lip, freezes, and spalls the mortar. Our fix: grind back the failed edge, re-flash with a flexible crown sealant, and recoat with HeatShield Cerfractory only where the substrate is sound.
  • Factory caps on HeatShield-installed liners are often undersized. We see a lot of HeatShield jobs in Yonkers where the crew sized the liner correctly but dropped a generic 12×12 cap on a flue that needed a 14×14 with a taller screen. That gap lets rain in during nor’easters. We replace with a properly sized stainless multi-flue cap and document it with before/after camera photos.
  • HeatShield’s older smoke chamber parge coat doesn’t bond to the crown firestop. On pre-2015 installs, the parge material at the top of the smoke chamber sometimes crackles away from the firestop plate, especially in row houses along the Hudson where chimneys run cold then hot. We grind the joint, re-parge with a compatible refractory, and reset the firestop so the crown has something solid to sit on.
  • Stainless caps corrode prematurely when the liner was sized too tight. If the HeatShield liner is undersized for the appliance, exhaust temps run high and the cap screen and hood oxidize faster than they should. We check the liner diameter against the BTU rating of the furnace or water heater, and if it’s wrong, we say so before replacing the cap. No point putting a new cap on a bad liner.
  • HeatShield crown coating doesn’t arrest existing brick spalling. The coating seals the crown surface, but if the brick below has already started spalling from years of saturation, coating the top won’t stop it. We’ll tell you that on camera, show you the loose brick, and give you a written price for tuckpointing or rebuilding the top courses.

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process
  1. 1
Camera inspection first. We run the camera down the flue and across the crown before quoting anything. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a documented photo record on every job, and we’ve kept that archive since 2009.
  2. 2
Written scope and price. You get a line-item quote that names the parts we’ll use, the flue size, and the labor. No verbal estimates, no “we’ll see when we get up there.”
  3. 3
Parts decision. For HeatShield liners in good shape, we match cap and crown specs to the original install when it makes sense. When the OEM part is backordered or discontinued, we quote a quality aftermarket equivalent from Olympia Chimney or Famco and tell you the difference on paper.
  4. 4
The repair or replacement. We grind, seal, coat, flash, and cap. If the crown is too far gone for HeatShield Cerfractory, we say so and rebuild it with portland and mesh before coating.
  5. 5
Before and after camera record. You walk away with photos of the damaged crown, the repair in progress, and the finished job. Not optional. It’s what we hand you when the job is done.
  6. 6
365-Day Done Right Promise. If any of our HeatShield cap or crown work fails within a year, we make it right. Stamped on the paperwork.

Why Yonkers Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Yonkers for HeatShield Work

We’ve inspected and cleaned more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, and a lot of those were in Yonkers - older colonials off McLean Avenue, the steep slate roofs near the Hudson River Museum corridor, the narrow row houses where the stack runs up three stories and hasn’t seen a cap replacement in twenty years. Our techs know HeatShield liners and crown coatings well enough to tell you when the product is still doing its job and when it’s time to stop patching.

We also service DuraFlex and Gelco systems, so if your HeatShield liner needs a cap that was originally spec’d for a different brand, we know what crosses over. Every tech is background-checked and uniformed. Every quote is in writing. And Corrine Halstead, the owner, is the one who trained the crew on HeatShield Cerfractory application - she’s been doing hands-on chimney work across Westchester County for the better part of two decades, and she still runs a camera on every job before and after.

The camera doesn’t lie, and neither does the quote.
